The Way I See It!

I am an Ultra-Conservative, Alpha-Male, True Authentic Leader, Type "C" Personality, who is very active in my community; whether it is donating time, clothes or money for Project Concern or going to Common Council meetings and voicing my opinions. As a blogger, I intend to provide a different viewpoint "The way I see it!" on various world, national and local issues with a few helpful tips & tidbits sprinkled in.

Public School Teachers Not Being Truthful On Pay For Effect?

Wisconsin, Union, Collective Bargaining, school, Teachers

Jay Weber pointed out on his radio show Wednesday, March 23, 2011 that a married couple who are both teachers in Oshkosh and are both retiring, yet they didn’t give their correct salary for effect in a Wall Street Journal article.

It was lowballed!!!  Shocking!!!

Why would they lie?

What does that say about them?

I did email the author of the article to inform her that the pay is falsely represented so hopefully it will be corrected.

From the Wall Street Journal article “Public Employees Rush to Retire

Pay Cuts, Fear of Losing Benefits Trigger Exodus; Governments Save Money, but Lose Expertise.

Among Wisconsin public employees filing for retirement are Mary and Len Herricks, both teachers in Oshkosh.  They put in their papers in mid-March after lawmakers voted to rein in most public-employee collective-bargaining rights.

"Not only am I losing salary and benefits and facing a bigger work load, but now they are taking away my rights," says Ms. Herricks, a 56-year-old elementary school teacher.  A teacher for 35 years who earns in the high 50s, Ms Herricks can now retire and collect nearly her former salary.  "Retirement was supposed to be something happy.  I'm so sad."

When the Herricks retire from Oshkosh, they each will receive health insurance until age 65, pension checks and a payment worth $600 per year of service.

"I wouldn't want to risk losing those things," says Mr. Herricks, a high school agriculture teacher who is retiring after 37 years.

Given that pensions are off-limits to certain taxes, Mr. Herricks says they will bring home close to what they did before.  They also plan to substitute teach.  Still, the move is bittersweet.  "I never thought my career would end like this," Mr. Herricks says.  "This was the hardest decision I've ever had to make in my life."
