I am a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. I believe in sharing my talents and experiences by giving back to the community by giving my time to coaching, church and especially to the disability community. I truly believe that all men and women are created equally.
On Tuesday, Cudahy Schools begin the new school year. While, I as a parent, am excited for this day as I work from home and I get more done when the kids are not around, I know my kids want a couple more days off. I think this is a good time to remind both drivers and walkers about safety.
Drivers, SLOW DOWN in the school zones. There are many families that cross where ever they want, including the middle of the road. You never know when someone is going to dart out in front of you. I know that when I learned how to drive, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing the street at a 4 way stop. Also, the white trim on stop signs does not mean that they are optional, you must stop.
Familes & walkers, please cross at the corners, that is why we have crossing guards. It drives me nuts when I see families crossing in the middle of the street to get their kids to school. Or those families near the Middle School that let the kids out of the car in the middle of the block while they are waiting to get to the stop sign and the kid takes a leisurely stroll across the street in front of me, mid block.
We need to ensure that our future leaders and innovators are making it to class.
Have a happy and safe 2012-2013 school year
