John Manke is an active former Bay View resident who is involved in numerous neighborhood organizations, including the Bay View Historical Society, the Humboldt Park Fourth of July Association and the Shore Shore Farmers Market. He believes Bay View has a fine tradition in its past that we do not want to lose in the future.
The South Shore Farmers Market, located at South Shore Park, 2900 S. Shore Drive in Bay View, is said to be the largest farmers market in Milwaukee. It is open on Saturdays from 8 am to 12 noon. This week's educational program will be "Cooking Demo with Hector's on Delaware". The Musical program will feature the "Milwaukee Metropolitan Voices Singing the Broadway Hits". There are over 40 vendors on site, including kettle corn, fresh mushrooms, crepes,fresh meat on the grill, eggs and frozen chickens, homemade candy, eggrolls and specialty teas, three bakeries, two coffee locations, honey products, preserved jams and jellies, many farmers, both organic and regular, fresh tomatoes, corn, pumpkins, squashes of many varieties, onions, potatoes,watermelons, beans, brussel sprouts,apples, carrots and other farm products. If you come early, you will be able to find a picnic table to sit down and relax and watch the entertainment. It is an old Milwaukee custom to sit down with a sweet roll and a cup of fresh coffee and talk and relax together with a beautiful view of Lake Michigan in the backround. Y'all come and join us here.
