On Sunday, November 6, 2011, Daylight Saving Time will end. Make plans to reset your clocks accordingly. Green Bay Packers will play football that day. Check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors to see if their batteries are fresh. They can save your life one day. Start to prepare your house for winter, for it too will be coming soon. Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Make sure that your children are dressed warm enough for the weather conditions outside. It is beeter to be safe than sorry. Get your flu shots to prepare your family. Relax and enjoy being with your family. A family that plays together, stays together. Please support the Bay View community.
Many times we wander during our daily life and wonder if we have done everything that we have wanted to do. As we get older, the days seem to go much faster. The easy things of the past seem to have gotten more difficult now. Our vision seems to weaken as we get older. Our legs lose their strength as we take a walk. The steps seem harder to climb than before. Are we showing signs of aging? Think back to your recent past and remember all of the things that you used to do and now no longer do as much. We have to accept the fact that we are getting older. Things may get done later, but we will try our best to still do them. A good nap restores out strength. We become couch potatoes as never before. Smoking and alcohol are not necessary to have a good time. We at least have our friends to relax with. Is this what getting old is like? Sooner or later we all will face this part of life. It is for us "to be or not to be". Life is a gift of the Lord. How we treat it is our responsibility. Please relax and enjoy life as best you can.
How many people remember when you could rent a row boat at a county park? Humboldt and many other parks had boats to rent. At Humboldt Park in the old (now razed) pavilion we used to rent row boats for about an hour and then return them to the pavilion dock. Ice skating used to start at the same location as the boat dock. There used to be a concession inside of the pavilion and you could buy popcorn there. When there were only a few customers, the ducks used to come inside and search for popcorn. It is too bad that we no longer can rent boats in the county parks. It was good friendly excercise to row a boat with your friends. Now our parks are badly in need of help to repair all of the delayed maintenance in our parks. For many years now, our parks have shown signs of neglect. The park workers do their best, but Milwaukee County eliminates needed help and supplies. It is sad to look at pictures of the parks as they once were and then look at them now. Please help us restore our parks. Contact your local politicians to seek the help needed. Next year we have elections again. Remember the politicians who have helped us and vote against those who do not help us. You are a voter, and every vote is important.
It was a windy day like today, when ships on the Great Lakes dread. A storm can come out of no where and batter the cargo ships. Many ships have been lost and never seen again. If your yacht or boat is still in the water, now is the time to remove it for winter storage. If the winds and waves are strong enough, your boat could end up either beached on shore or damaged badly. November is a bad month to be upon Lake Michigan or any of the Great Lakes. The weather is too unpredictable to travel very far. Storms can come without warning. Your life could be in jeopardy. Take some precautions and save your boat and your life.
At this time we should honor the veterans who have served their time in the U.S. Military and helped to defend us. Many veterans have lost comrades both in combat and through age. How important was your buddy, who stayed by you when you were in an active combat area? That buddy could have been the man who saved your life through his actions. We are lucky today to be able to enjoy the freedom that our veterans have earned for us. It is time to say thank you to the members of our armed forces, both present and past members, for giving up their time to defend us.When ever you see a veteran or an active member of our armed forces, thank him for being there in our time of need. I hope that you all have a wonderful Veteran's Day.
Every year is different as to the day when the first measurable snow storm arrives. Sometimes it will come in late October. Sometimes it will come some time in November. Is your car ready for when the first snow storm comes? How are your car brakes and tires? Have you had a recent oil change and car check? If your car is in excellent driving condition, then are you ready for a snow storm? You must adjust how you drive on slippery roads. It will be harder to stop your car. If a child darts out into the street, will you be able to stop in time to avoid hitting him or her? Plan ahead, and you will have a wonderful fall and winter. Remember, your family needs you. Don't drink and drive. Be able to return home and enjoy being with your family. When you do your Christmas shopping, be careful of other drivers who are not cautious and are reckless. Watch out for hidden black ice both while driving your car and while walking outdoors. Please support the Bay View Community.
QUEEN KINGA'S DOWRY
In the 11th cenury, Kinga, the princess of Hungary, was to marry Wladyslaus the Shy, whom was the Prince of Poland. Her father promised to give her anything she wanted as a wedding gift. In those days, a king usually gave his daughter a fortune in gold or jewels. To everyones surprise, Kinga asked for a salt mine.

Now is the time to plan your menu for Thanksgiving. If you are going out to eat, this won't matter to you. You need to see what your needs are for the main dinner. You need a turkey large enough to serve all the people eating with you. You need to buy the ingredients for making stuffing. You will need sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes for those who do not like sweet potatoes. A large pumpkin pie will help. Frozen corn or any other vegetable that you desire should be available. Dinner rolls or buns will be needed. If this is too much food to prepare, then seek help from your guests to bring part of the meal. Make it a shared meal for all to enjoy. Buy some beverages for your guests to drink or have them bring along something to drink. Football will be an important part of the day, since the Green Bay Packers are playing the Detroit Lions in Detroit that day. Have some of your guests help you with serving and cooking the meal. Have a Happy Thankgiving Day. Please support the Bay View community.
E. College Ave. from S. Howell Ave. to S. Pennsylvania Ave. has been closed for rebuilding for some time. It it great to be able to use E. College Ave. again. Instead of having a worn out, bumpy road we will have 4 lanes of traffic and actual street lighting. In the past it was dark without street lights and it was very easy to get off the road in a bad way. Now it is easier to drive with street lights guiding us on our way. I wish to thank all of the politicians who helped push through this road rebuilding process. It is great to modernize an old roadway. Thank you to everyone involved in this work.
Complete your Thanksgiving weekend with an afternoon house concert with Folk Musicians. Lil Rev, traveling musician and storyteller, and Larry Penn, singer-songwriter, at the Beulah Brinton House, located at 2590 S. Superior Street in Bay View. This will happen on Sunday, November 27th, at 2:00 PM. Refreshments will be served and a free-will offering for the performance will be taken. This event is free and open to the public.

I hope that everyone celebrates Thanksgiving Day with their friends and/or family. This is a day to share thanks for all that we have. It is a day to go to church as a family. Turkey is the main menu today. Pumpkin pie, sweet potatoes, corn, stuffing, rolls and other foods make this day complete. Do not eat too much. Early in the day, the Green Bay Packers will play the Detroit Lions in Detroit. Let's hope that we are not their turkey at the football game. The Dallas Cowboys will play a later game that day. Get your family and friends together and relax. For one day, we can avoid the conversation of politics. This is day to give thanks and not to argue. I hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. May the Good Lord Bless and keep you from all harm.

I would like to extend birthday greetings to my wife, Penny. You have put up with me for over 45 years. It is a thankless job. Have a very happy birthday, today. Do whatever you want to do. This is your day to celebrate and be happy. May you have many more birthdays. God be with you at all times. Remember. each day is a gift of the Lord. Treat it accordingly. Happy birthday, dear.
Scott Walker has asked his own party to start the recall action for him so that he could raise additional money for his campaign. We should honor his request and recall him from office. I am wondering who will run against him in a recall election. Maybe Tommie Thompson should run against him. Russ Feingold is also a good candidate. Perhaps a good unknown candidate will come and run against him. I feel that it would be unfair not to recall him. We need a good common sense person to run against him who will serve the people in the correct way. We need good responsible government, for the people, of the people, who can do a good honest job. We don't need to feed his corporate sponsors and deprive the people of needed things. If a man does not do his job correctly, he should be recalled from office.
