John Manke is an active former Bay View resident who is involved in numerous neighborhood organizations, including the Bay View Historical Society, the Humboldt Park Fourth of July Association and the Shore Shore Farmers Market. He believes Bay View has a fine tradition in its past that we do not want to lose in the future.
On Saturdays, from 8 am to 12 noon, the South Shore Farmers Market at south Shore Park, 2900 S. Shore Drive, in Bay View is open for business. There are over 40 vendors to greet you with their products. Corn, cabbage, brussell sprouts, peas, beans, squash, cantalopes, watermelons,tomatoes, pickles & cucumbers,purple carrots and regular carrots, fresh mushrooms,crepes, kettle corn,dill and other spices,onions, potatoes, eggs rolls & specialty teas, roast beef on the grill, three bakeries, two coffee shops,homemade candy, fresh flowers & plants are all available at the market. An educational program begins at 9:15 am followed by a musical program at 10:15 am. Come early, find a picnic table, buy some coffee or tea and some bakery and rest your feet for a while. There are a limited amount of picnic tables in the area. If you want to sit down and listen to the music, bring along your own chair to sit down on. While you are relaxing at the park, look over at beautiful Lake Michigan in the backround. Y'all come and join us at the South Shore Farmers Market.
