QUOTES OF THE WEEK
“Daddy, I miss you so much, and I think about you every day.”
Christina Aceto, after reciting the name of her father, Richard Anthony Aceto, at a Sept. 11 World Trade Center ceremony for victims of the terror attacks.
“Millions around the world increasingly see America not as a model of democracy but as relying solely on brute force, cobbling coalitions together under the slogan ‘you’re either with us or against us.’”
From an op-ed column in the New York Times by Russia President Vladimir Putin.
“We don’t have money for anything else but we have a couple hundred million dollars to lob some Tomahawks and mount an expensive campaign in Syria?”
Army Sgt. 1st Class Chris Larue, of Fort Eustis, Va., in a survey finding solid opposition to Syria intervention in the armed forces.
“He’s (Tim Tebow) got a religious passion, as well he should, we’re in America. He’s proud to be a Christian, what’s wrong with that? And yet, with sports media and pop culture media, they make fun of his religion. Really? In America? If he was wearing a burqa, they wouldn’t dare say anything. But if you’re a Christian, you get to be picked on? What the hell? The guy’s got family values. I never saw the media picking on Michael Vick for torturing dogs. Or this other football player, who’s alleged to have killed, committed murder. That’s ‘cool.’ But a guy who’s religious and has got family values isn’t ‘cool?’ He’s cool to me.”
Gene Simmons of the rock group KISS.
"If you're going to go to the face, come with some knuckles, not an open slap. That young man (Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers) works very hard on being a tough guy. He'll have some repairing to do to his image after the slap."
San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh the day after the Packers-49ers game. In the second quarter of the Packers' Week 1 loss to the 49ers, Colin Kaepernick scrambled and stepped out of bounds when Matthews leaped at him at a fully horizontal angle and tackled him after the whistle. Matthews was fined for the play. He also got into a scuffle with San Francisco lineman Joe Staley. Harbaugh said Matthews went at Staley with open slaps.
“I’m an awesome player, not a dirty player.”
Clay Matthews defending himself.
