John Manke is an active former Bay View resident who is involved in numerous neighborhood organizations, including the Bay View Historical Society, the Humboldt Park Fourth of July Association and the Shore Shore Farmers Market. He believes Bay View has a fine tradition in its past that we do not want to lose in the future.
Recently a retired beloved teacher passed away. His name was R. Paul Kohlbeck. He taught in the same school that he went to as a child. His students looked up to him. He was always calm and forthcoming. He was one of the founders and past presidents of the Bay View Historical Society. You could see him coming to the South Shore Farmers Market. He always smoked a pipe and enjoyed just relaxing and visiting with people. Not every teacher would be called beloved, but Paul Kohlbeck earned that right. He will be missed by us all. Rest in peace, Paul.
