Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog:
Earlier this week, Kyla and I were walking in to Sendik’s when we saw two small dogs with long hair in a Toyota SUV-type vehicle. They were barking up a storm, so they were tough to miss. With temperatures around 80 degrees and high humidity, it was no surprise that they wanted attention. All four windows were open a bit but quite honestly, I can’t imagine that was enough to provide any sort of comfort. My blood began to boil, and I imagine those little pups felt pretty much the same way, literally.
We grabbed the couple items we needed and were on our way. I had hoped NOT to see the vehicle still there but they were still there and still barking like crazy. I cooed to them, “You’re hot aren’t you?” and was just about to grab my cell phone to call the Franklin police non-emergency number. Right behind me was Owner of the Year who promptly told me, “They weren’t in there that long.”
I’m usually the last person to want any sort of confrontation or to make a scene. Still, I was more than happy to give her an extremely nasty look and reply, “It was long enough… I sure wouldn’t want to be sitting in a hot car like that!” Honestly, she was lucky that Kyla was with me. While I clearly wouldn’t have done anything physical to her, I would have had some sterner words for her. The best I could do was talk loudly to Kyla about how it’s not nice to leave dogs in a car when it is so blasted hot outside.
It continues to boggle my mind at dog owners’ stupidity and carelessness. This is Franklin… you’d certainly like to think that our city’s residents are reasonably intelligent. It wasn’t as if this was another “torture technique” used on dogs for fighting in the inner city. The owner was around my age, well-dressed and by all accounts normal-looking. Her SUV was quite new and in good shape. It just goes to show that idiocy knows no limits and has no qualifications. Any dog owner can be as dumb as a stump, and still allowed to BE a dog owner.
Obviously the ones that really should read The Barking Lot, don’t.
Time now for DOGS IN THE NEWS, canines that made headlines the past week.
