Return of warmer weather

In March, we had April weather. In April, we had March weather.  Now that we are in May, I hope that warmer weather will return. Rain can help with the grass and plants in the yard. Before the month is over, I expect much warmer weather. We are getting close to Memorial Day, when we pay our respects to those who have given their lives in the service of our country and honor those who have more recently served. Veterans from World War II are quickly leaving us. It won't be long before all will have passed on. Our veterans served us so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we enjoy today. Take the time to thank a veteran or a person in the military service for all that they have done for us.

Happy Mother's Day

I wish all the mothers, wives and young women a very happy Mother's Day.  At this time we remember  what our mothers  mean to us.  When we grew up, our mother wa their to guide and protect us from harm.  We learned manners from our mothers. We learned how to cook, wash clothes, scrub floors and steps, do dishes, ride a bicycle or tricycle,  and how to meet friends. There are many other things that we learned.  When they pass on, we then learn how much we will miss them. They always stood by you.  They set an example for you to live your own life. Thet helped us when we had children and needed some answers and help. They would baby sit for you when needed.  When you were sick, they would come and help you get better. There are so many things to remember about our mothers. Take the time to wish them a happy Mother's Day if you can.

The dangers of gun powder

Do you know that gun powder can turn into nitrocycerin if improperly stored. Sweating dynamite sticks are feared by miners in their work. Fireworks and bullets contain gun powder. Caps for cap guns contain gun powder. If the gun powder sits for a long period of time it becomes unstable and dangerous to handle. Old weapons from past wars like shells and grenades can become unstable. If you use unstable gun powder, you can lose your hands, sight or even your life. Almost anything can set them off.  If when you move into a new house or when you are cleaning up an estate, you must look for any old weapons that might contain gun powder. You should contact either the fire or police department to properly dispose of them. If your children find any such weapons, you could either lose a child or badly injure a child. In this case prevention can protect you from danger. Remember, old fireworks contain gun powder and are like having a small stick of dynamite. If they appear to have sweat on them, watch out!  Years ago I had some old caps sitting in my dresser drawer. One day I tried to use them in a cap gun I had lying around. When I fired the caps off, my cap gun fell apart. I tried this with two other cap guns and had the same results. I then realized that these caps had become unstable and had to be destroyed before anybody got hurt using them. This is only a small event. Imagine what could have happened if I had something with more gun powder that became unstable. I am writing this to warn people about the dangers of old gun powder.  Old bullets can explode inside of a gun. I hope that I have given you some insight into this matter.  Please support the Bay View community.

Support our Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers have begun a new season.  Take some time and  go see a ball game. You can always bring a small grill and cook at the stadium parking lot before the game. Tail gating can be  a lot of fun. If you are lucky, you may catch a foul ball in the stands.  If you get there early, you can watch the players warm up for the game. If you get there early, you can beat the crowd and find a good parking spot. Let's support our Milwaukee Brewers.

Results of lack of funding from state government

Since Scott Walker has become Governor of the State of Wisconsin, it seems that he has forgotten about Milwaukee. When other parts of the state get funding, he avoids Milwaukee. He blames Tom Barrett for losing jobs in Wisconsin. Without needed state funding, Tom Barrett has had no choice but to reduce jobs. Where is the support our public schools need to operate. Where is the funding for  health costs for needy people? Where is the funding needed for our parks and mass transportation? Where is our needed new trains for the Hiawatha Train Route between Milwaukee and Chicago?  Why did the Talgo Train Manufactoring Company have to stop construction on the new train cars that we needed?  It seems that Milwaukee is in a vacuum when it comes to funding from the state. At the same time, rich supporters of Scott Walker have gotten nice tax breaks from the state.  Maybe the recall election of Scott Walker is very necesary to save Wisconsin. You are the voter. You must decide on this issue.

Our weather has been unbelievable lately

We have had some wonderful days of nice weather lately. It almost feels like summer is here, but colder weather is always on its way. Take your family out to enjoy this great weather. Outdoor activity is good for you. Enjoy the weather while you can.  Bad weather could return at any time. Good warm fresh air is always good for you. Go to a park and have a picnic. Go to a softball or baseball game. Tailgating is always fun to do. Outdoor grilling can produce some fantastic meals for your family. Get outside and enjoy life.  Please support the Bay View community/

Have a happy Memorial Day

On this weekend, we take the time to remember those who have served in our military and have given up their lives so that we could enjoy the freedoms that we share today. You should thank the people in our military, for giving up their time and lives that we might live. Freedom is not cheap. Many have died trying to serve our country. Do not forget them. Honor those who have served and defended our freedom. Thank you to all who have served our country in the military service. Take the time on Memorial Day to reflect on those who served our country and have passed on to their reward. May the Lord be with them, now and forever.

Going to a doctor

In the old days, almost anyone could claim to be a doctor. Barbers did blood letting besides giving a shave and a haircut. There were few rules concerning who could be a doctor.  In pioneer days, some people went to a medicine man or to a wise old women for folk remedies to cure any illness. As the pioneers came her from our east, doctors like Dr. Enoch Chase came from Vermont. Some doctors came from Europe. Slowly but surely, real educated doctors appeared in our area. In war time, medics did a great job taking care of wounded men. Many learned from their experiences and went on to college to become medical doctors.  As time went on, many doctors decided to spread their wings and learn specialty fields. In these specialty fields, much research was done and new cures and medicines were developed. Today when you have a major problem, a specialist will be called on to help cure you and help you out. It is amazing to consider what all happened in the early days, and how different things are today.  Many people today are alive because of new things learned by doctors and research groups.  Be happy that you are here today rather than in the past. The medical field has come a long way since the pioneer days.  Thank your doctor for helping you in any illness that you have.

Happy anniversary Penny

Today, my wife Penny and I have been married for 46 years. I am very happy to have her for my wife. She has had the patience to put up with me for all of these years. She has done a lot to help other people and volunteer her skills and labor. PTA has been one of her great desires. She has spent many years trying to bring the parents into their children's education process. She also has been an officer of other groups like, PWAA (Polish Women's Alliance of America), Girl Scouts, Garden Clubs, Humboldt Park 4th of July Association, Bay View Historical Society, park watches, and other organizations. She did a wonderful job of raising our children. She is all that I ever could ask for. She is very intelligent and wise. She is considerate and devoted. Thank you Penny for being my wife. I love you very much.

Watch out for children playing while you are driving

At this time of the year, many children like to play outdoors.  Sometimes they will run out into the street without any warning. When they are playing nearby, keep an eye out for potential runners who will run into the street without looking both ways. They are to excited to look out for danger. This is why you, the driver must be extra cautious while driving your car. Some bicycle riders do not follow the rules of the road and can ride into your path without warning. Many do not obey traffic rules and go against traffic lights and signs. Drive with caution at all times. The life you save may be your own or your family's life.  Please support the Bay View community.
