John Manke is an active former Bay View resident who is involved in numerous neighborhood organizations, including the Bay View Historical Society, the Humboldt Park Fourth of July Association and the Shore Shore Farmers Market. He believes Bay View has a fine tradition in its past that we do not want to lose in the future.
The Talent Contest is back at Humboldt Park on Independence Day
This year, on Monday, July 5, 2010, Humboldt Park will hold its centennial Independence Day celebration. Thanks to some very kind and generous sponsors, we will be able to have a Talent Contest again this year. Last year our Talent Contest had to be canceled due to budget cuts from the City of Milwaukee. Because this is our centennial year, we are going all out to produce the best Independence Day celebration that we ever have had in 100 years. Thanks to our sponsors and volunteers, we are able to continue for this year. As funding gets more difficult each year, and our volunteers are getting older, we need more input and help from new younger people. Please consider becoming a member and help us continue this celebration into the future for a new generation of people to enjoy. Over the past 100 years, we have had many dedicated people give up their time and talents to keep this program alive and active. I wish to thank all of our past and current sponsors for all of the help they have given to us. Likewise, I would like to thank all of the people who have volunteered over the years. Some members have served for over 50 years. It gives us great joy to plan and develop the day's events. Volunteering can be a wonderful thing. Look at what you have accomplished over the years. Thank you everyone.
