Joseph "Joe" A. Kardach died May 14, 2009.
He was born March 24, 1959, to Carol and Jerry Kardach. He graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1977 and was in the Air National Guard from 1977 to 1983.
He became a city of Milwaukee firefighter in 1984, retiring in 2008 after 24 years of service, 20 of those as an emergency medical technician. He volunteered with the Clement J. Zablocki Medical Center in 2008.
He loved hiking, bicycling, fishing and helping his mom and dad with yardwork.
He is survived by his parents; siblings, Belinda (Wayne) Copus, Elizabeth (Dave) Grubba and Angela Kardach; godchildren, Cara (Mike) Jensen; nieces and nephews, Kelly (Jason) Budde, Kasey and Kevin Corpus, Jeremy and Allision Grubba, Jason and Laura Grubba, and Jared and Tonya Grubba; and 14 great-nieces and -nephews.
A memorial Mass was celebrated May 26 at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish, South Milwaukee.
Memorials to South Milwaukee Human Concerns are suggested.
The family thanks the staff and doctors at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center SICU and MRICU for the tender care Kardach received.
Molthen-Bell & Sons Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
