A Groundwork Milwaukee Inc., the National Park Service - Rivers Trails and Conservation Assistance Program will sponsor an open house from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the design of the Kinnickinnic River Trail.
The meeting will take place at the Outpost Co-op community room , 2826 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., Bay View.
The city of Milwaukee has funding to design and build the trail, but no additional funding for trailhead amenities such as benches, directional or interpretive signs or artwork. Therefore, the three groups have been collaborating in hosting design workshops to engage local residents and other organizations in the planning process.
Attendees can comment on the preliminary designs for trailheads at three locations. Issues of concern include accessibility, maintenance, landscaping, lighting, safety, and vandalism and other crime.
The KKRT is a city of Milwaukee bike trail that will run both on- and off-street from the Hank Aaron State Trail at Pittsburgh Avenue to South Sixth St and Rosedale Avenue.
Trailheads will be located at Washington Street east of South First Street, East Maple Street and South Kinnickinnic Avenue, South First Street and East Lincoln Avenue, and South Sixth Street and West Rosedale Avenue.
