Alverno Presents Vijay Iyer

Feb. 29, 2012

Unmatched genius, originality and innovation will once again grace Alverno when Vijay Iyer performs on Saturday, March 10th at 8 p.m. at Alverno College’s Wehr Hall. “Solo,” Vijay’s most recent album, propels the already-lauded career of this cutting edge young artist to recognition as one of the most important jazz artists of our time.
"By now, there can be no doubt that pianist-composer Iyer stands among the most daringly original jazz artists of the under-40 generation," writes Howard Reich in the Chicago Tribune. The American-born son of Indian immigrants, Vijay Iyer is a self-taught creative musician grounded in American jazz and popular forms, who draws from a wide range of Western and non-Western traditions. He was described by The New Yorker as one of "today's most important pianists ... extravagantly gifted," and by the L.A. Weekly as "a boundless and deeply important young star."
Single tickets are $25.00. Season subscriptions are still available for 15% off single ticket prices when purchasing three or more events. Tickets may be purchased through the Alverno Presents Box Office at 414-382-6044 or on-line at http://alvernopresents.alverno.edu.
