G. Groppi Food Market will sponsor their 4th Annual Wine & Beer Tasting as a benefit for the Bay View Historical Society on Saturday, July 25th. This casual but elegant event will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on the lawn of the Society’s headquarters, the historic Beulah Brinton House, located at 2590 South Superior Street. The event marks the kick-off of the Bay View Historical Society Capital Campaign, Celebrating Our Past, Forging Our Future. The campaign’s goal is to raise funds to secure ownership of the Beulah Brinton House, support restoration and further develop Society programming.
At the tasting, guests can sample international wines and beers offered by G. Groppi Food Market while enjoying a variety of food and dessert items from local restaurants. The evening’s festivities will also include entertainment and a silent auction. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Society and help support its Beulah Brinton House headquarters.
Space is limited to the first 150 reservations. Tickets will be $55 at the door, but may be purchased in advance for $45. Tickets are available at G. Groppi Food Market, 1441 E. Russell Ave., Sendik’s on Oakland, 2027 N. Oakland Ave., and the Underwood Gallery in Wauwatosa, 1430 Underwood Ave. They can also be purchased by mail from the Bay View Historical Society, 2590 S. Superior Street, Milwaukee, WI 53207. For additional information, call Wine & Beer Tasting Chair Nancy Tawney at (414) 744-5674.
The Bay View Historical Society, established in 1979, is dedicated to maintaining the Bay View community through conserving, celebrating and sharing Bay View’s rich heritage. With almost 500 members, it is one of the largest local historical societies in the area. The Society maintains headquarters at one of the most prominent historical sites in Bay View, the Beulah Brinton House. Built in 1872, it is considered to be among the best remaining Gothic Revival residences in the city and was formerly home to Beulah Brinton, a community leader who turned her house into an informal social center and Bay View’s first library. The Society also designates landmarks throughout Bay View and publishes a newsletter, The Historian, which contains articles of local historical interest. During the year, the Society conducts general membership meetings, historic walks and other social events. Membership in the Society is open to anyone interested in supporting the Society’s programs.
