6 STM Music Students Advance to State Competition
Six Saint Thomas More High School students, including four seniors, recently received a score of 1* at the Wisconsin School Music Association District Music Festival. The six will perform at the State Music Festival in April.
Students can enter solos or group pieces in three different difficulty levels. To move onto the State Festival, a student must enter the hardest level, Class A, and receive a score of 1*. Seniors Jacob Bach, Heather Bekkers, Jackie Clark, and Grace Liebenstein; and juniors Acee Laird and Sam Matthew all received 1*’s.
Liebenstein will perform in three events at the State Festival: musical theater vocal solo, soprano vocal solo, and male/female vocal duet with Laird. Clark will perform a musical theater vocal solo and a female vocal duet with Bekkers. Bach will also perform a musical theater vocal solo. Laird will perform a musical theater solo in addition to his duet with Liebenstein. Matthew will perform a parade drum solo.
Bach, Bekkers, Clark, and Liebenstein are all in the cast of STM’s upcoming musical “Into the Woods.” The musical will be performed on March 5 at 7:00 p.m., 6 at 8:00 p.m., 12 at 7:00 p.m., 13 at 8:00 p.m., and 14 at 2:00 p.m.
The WSMA State Music Festival will take place on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday, April 24.
