Environmental Studies Course III, Series IV

Mark your calendar for May 7th and 8th and plan to attend “The Living Earth”, an Environmental Studies School Course III, Series IV. Offered by the Wisconsin Garden Club Federation – Milwaukee District, on May 7 and 8, 2010, from 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. daily at Havenwoods Environmental Awareness Center, 6141 N. Hopkins Street, Milwaukee, WI 53209, we invite you learn about “Air”, the focus of Course III.

 

Dr. Dale R. Olen will return to discuss Environmental Ethics and Earth Stewardship on Friday. Paula Zamiatowski, a Certified Master Naturalist, will teach us all about the Rain Forest as part of our Field Trip to the Mitchell Park Horticulture Conservatory (The Domes), in Milwaukee. We will have a backstage tour of The Domes under Paula’s guidance and also receive additional instruction on the growing of orchids in the arid dome. Brenton Burger, from the “big island” down under and a guest lecturer at Marquette University, will share his knowledge on pollution. Howard Aprill, Naturalist at Wehr Nature Center, Milwaukee County, will discuss “how to start a conservancy”. Judy Klippel, Superintendent at Havenwoods, will talk about endangered plants and wildlife and Judy Newman, NGC ESS Chairman, will wrap-up the two days of activities.

 

This school is open to the public and all NGC Garden Club Members. Required reading for Course III is The National Gardener (1 year with 4 issues per year) and textbook Living in the Environment (7th edition or later) – G. Tyler Miller, Jr. available from NGC, Inc., the Internet and bookstores. This is the third course in a series of four that will be presented.

 

Course fee is $35 per day and lunch is available for an additional $8.00 per day.
