Ivy League Entrepreneurs Give Back to the Community

June 29, 2010

Milwaukee, June 29, 2010 - Education is a fundamental aspect of a person’s life. With an education, more doors are open for a brighter future. A college education is vital to landing a successful job, leading to a good future. And with college admissions getting more and more competitive every year, students are looking for ways to get into better colleges. With the goal of helping more students achieve college success, Jeffrey Lemmer, Brown University ’12, and Jane Zhang, University of Pennsylvania ’13, are bringing Ivy Insiders to Milwaukee this summer.

This innovative ACT prep program was started by Harvard undergraduates in 2003 and has since grown into a national test prep leader thanks to the highest student score improvements in the industry. Ivy Insiders has helped over 4,000 students raise their SAT/ACT scores by hiring Ivy League students scoring in the 99th percentile to teach and mentor students looking for score improvements. Students see an average score increase in the ACT of 4.4 points! The increased test score can be the difference a student needs to get into the college of their choice. Higher test scores can also lead to more scholarships.

Both Lemmer and Zhang are excited to bring Ivy Insiders to Milwaukee this summer.

Lemmer, valedictorian of Bradley Tech in 08’, is currently studying Organizational Studies and Education at Brown University. He is committed to give back to his home community by focusing his test prep to MPS students who do not have a solid foundation in ACT prep.

“Jane and I hope to use the program to help increase the ACT scores of students normally unfamiliar with test prep. The large role that the ACT plays in college destination and scholarships is misunderstood by a lot of students. Many of my friends in high school couldn't get into the schools they wanted because of their test scores. By informing students and parents about the tests' importance, we hope to change this common occurrence” says Lemmer.

Zhang, a graduate from Whitefish Bay ’09, is currently studying finance and marketing at the Wharton School at UPenn. She is excited to go through the process of starting her own business.

“The experience so far has been great. Jeff and I have done a lot of marketing for the ACT prep course and for the free events. At times, it can be a challenge, but I have learned a lot during the process. I am also really excited to give back to the community by sharing my knowledge of beating the ACT with high school students,” says Zhang.

Ivy Insiders will run multiple courses in Milwaukee throughout this summer. Scholarships and financial aid are available. The two have already put on one successful free ACT practice exam, providing high school students with a chance to experience the ACT in a proctored environment.
